The Nortel CallPilot 201i is a flexible, single location, voicemail server designed to work with Nortel Compact ICS and Modular ICS Phone Systems only.
The Nortel CallPilot is an Intel CPU/Windows NT 4.0 Server-based application. The 201i server occupies two slots of a Meridian 1 shelf or Communication Server 1000 Media Gateway or Media Gateway Expansion. It is available in three different platform types: IPE “in-skins, ” Tower, and Rackmount.
E-mail can be accessed and replied to quickly and easily, whether the user is in their office at the corporate site or halfway around the world.
When the server is locked into position, its connectors attach to the backplane, which provides power and communications links. Model 201i CallPilot 2.0 (single IPE card) has been expanded from 24 to 40 channels, and from 200 to 350 hours of voice message storage. It supports 2.200 unified messaging clients per server and up to 2.500 voice users.

The 201i server motherboard houses the interfaces needed:
- to communicate with the Meridian 1 switch or Succession 1000 system
- to facilitate data communications on Ethernet networks.
The mouse connector is a standard PS/2 connector and is hot-pluggable.
Lock latches at the top and bottom of the faceplate secured the server to the backplane of the Meridian 1switch or the backplane of the Succession 1000 MediaGateway or Media Gateway Expansion.
